Junior USA Shooting Team Shooting Patch Programs

Information for Adult Leaders

Incorporate shooting basics into your youth program.  Here's some tips to help get started:

  • Beginning shooters must be supervised by a qualified adult — parent, Scout leader, camp director or firearms instructor at a shooting range.

  • Call ahead to your local range, making sure it has the facilities you need for your activity.

  • If you are not familiar with local ranges, find a range near you at www.wheretoshoot.org.

  • The riflery challenge can be shot at an indoor or outdoor rifle range.

  • Schedule your outing.

  • Prepare your group by reviewing the rules of firearms safety.

  • Arrange to have a qualified instructor direct your group. Many ranges can provide an instructor if you can not provide one on your own.

  • If your group wants to continue shooting, find out about the National Shooting Sports Foundation's Youth Shooting Programs.
