USITC Firearms and Ammunition Data for October 2011
NSSF research reports that overall U.S. imports (in units) in six sporting arms and ammunition categories
increased 35.6 percent in October 2011 compared to October 2010. October 2011 imported units in tracked
categories totaled 158.9 million, up from 117.2 million reported in October 2010.
- Handgun imports increased 46.9 percent from 95,661 in October 2010 to 140,496 units in October 2011. Within the handgun category, Pistol import units increased 30.5 percent from 83,989 to 109,641 units while imported Revolver units rose 164.4 percent from 11,672 to 30,855 units.
- Rifle imports were up 76.0 percent from 39,707 to 69,889 units.
- Shotgun category posted an 8.4 percent decrease in imported units from 47,189 to 43,236.
- Muzzleloader category dropped 91.5 percent from 20,325 in October 2010 to 1,718 units in October 2011.
- Other Cartridges (excluding Shotgun cartridges) category increased 42.3 percent from 106.4 million to 151.5 million units.
- Shotgun Cartridges category declined 31.8 percent, dropping to 7.2 million units as compared to last year's 10.5 million.
