Major Threat in Maryland: Legislation (HB 1446) that would require all Maryland businesses that sell ammunition to maintain a record of each ammunition sale is scheduled for a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee this Thursday, March 19, at 1:00. Businesses throughout the state would be forced to collect and record information on each sale of ammunition. Included in the database would be the date of sale, purchaser's full name, address, date of birth, and form of ID used. Additionally, businesses would have to record the type and quantity of ammunition purchased. The bill also allows law enforcement to inspect ammunition sales records at will. HB 1446 will do nothing to curb crime and only hurt law-abiding retailers in the state, many of them small, independent businesses. Please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee TODAY and respectfully urge them to oppose HB 1446.
