2017 NSSF Rimfire Challenge Newsletter

The 2016 NSSF Rimfire Challenge year was a great success with a total of 25 registered matches. I was able to get to a few matches last year, and it was wonderful seeing so many people out on the range ringing steel. I really enjoyed catching up with so many shooting friends from across the country, especially Kolby Pavlock, who I’d like to once again like to congratulate here for defending his 2015 World Title during the 2016 Rimfire Challenge World Championship.

With the 2016 season over, it’s time to turn our attention to the 2017 matches. There are already seven registered matches on the calendar, including a brand new one in Minnesota that should be fun. I know we’re working to exceed the 25 registered matches we had last year, so keep an eye on the match calendar for updates.

TandemKross has once again signed on as the corporate Platinum Sponsor for the NSSF Rimfire Challenge program. It’s a great company to work with and are truly interested in seeing the program grow. I am sure you will see many of its staff members at various matches in the coming months, and I’d encourage all our shooters to say hello and thank them for their support. Indeed, we have many sponsors who support the NSSF Rimfire Challenge in some form or another, and we’d love for you to show your support by tagging them in your social media posts and share your stories with the folks who follow them.

There is a new Match Directors Acknowledgement form on the website. If you have already scheduled your event or if you are planning a match this year, please fill out this form and return it to me at tjuett@nssf.org.

We have also updated the Rulebook for 2017. There was only one change, but it was a big one. For the Limited division, compensators are now permitted equipment. The difference between Limited and Open will now only be whether optics are allowed. Please see the updated rulebook for details.

Finally, the moment you have all been waiting for: I’m pleased to announce that the 2017 NSSF Rimfire Challenge World Championships will once again be held at Cavern Cove Competition Range. This range put on a great match last year and we’re looking forward to another great turnout when this annual competition rolls back around October 13 – 15, 2017. Mark your calendars!

I for one am looking forward to a great year of shooting and growing the sport. There are a lot of young people entering competitions for the first time this year, and those of us who are more experienced shooters owe them the best events possible. So when you see a new shooter or competitor, thank them for coming out, offer words of encouragement and invite them to come back. All of us in this sport and in every shooting discipline are the greatest ambassadors we have for the shooting sports. It is up to us to show these new shooters—and even those who don’t shoot yet—how much fun, friendly and safe we are as a community.

Good luck to everyone shooting the 2017 NSSF Rimfire Challenge. Stay safe and have fun!
