Bloomberg Businessweek (Q&A on-line version)
Gun-Rights Advocates Explain Their Cause — and Their Game Plan: Steve Sanetti, 67, president of the National Shooting Sports Foundation, the trade association for the gun and ammunition industries
"Why don't we hear more from pro-gun Democrats such as retired Representative John Dingell of Michigan?"

"I guess you can tie that directly to the demise of the so-called Blue Dog Democrats. Conservative Democrats from the South, Midwest, and rural areas traditionally have been strong supporters of firearm ownership. Unfortunately, conservative Democrats and those who were in favor of the outdoors tradition tend to be a shrinking minority within their own party. Lines are becoming more sharply drawn."

Hearst Connecticut Newspapers
Sen. Chris Murphy rips into gun-rights movement
"A spokesman for the Newtown-based National Shooting Sports Foundation, which represents gun manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, importers and others in the industry, disputed Murphy's data on gun ownership. Michael Bazinet pointed to a Pew Research poll last month that found 44 percent of respondents had a gun at home, up from 39 percent in July 2015. NSSF research shows 25 percent of customers at retail are first-time buyers, he added. 'Senator Murphy's statements are demeaning and condescending,' Bazinet said."

Gun groups challenge attorney general's 'wars' against firearm industry
"'She's waging two wars at once against the firearms industry, against manufacturers and retailers and at same time against law abiding citizens in the commonwealth of Massachusetts,' said Jake McGuigan, senior director of state affairs with the National Shooting Sports Foundation. McGuigan said that as the firearms industry's trade association, the foundation is putting together a case against the attorney general to "challenge her decision to basically throw out 18 years of the way we were doing business" following the July law changes."

California gun transfer bill draws national scorn
"'NSSF opposes SB 1332 because the bill does nothing to increase public safety,' said Mike Bazinet, a foundation spokesman, in an email Tuesday. 'What SB 1332 would do is require the registration of firearms that are loaned if the owner chooses not to use an Federal Firearms Licensee for the transfer. Many rifles owned for hunting were purchased prior to the registration requirement, but these firearms could be required to be registered with DOJ. This bill makes clear that the end goal of anti-gun politicians in California is eventually to have all lawfully owned firearms registered with the government'."

AFSP/NSSF Suicide Prevention Program

Stars and Stripes
West Virginia plans to address veteran suicide prevention
"Last month, the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, which has a West Virginia chapter, and the National Shooting Sports Foundation, a trade association for gun retailers, announced they were working together on suicide prevention resources for gun retailers. West Virginia was not one of the states selected to host one of the pilot programs."

"The National Shooting Sports Foundation announced a partnership with the AFSP last month, as Gebbia took note that the partnership is a critical part of the project, which will focus on education, policies, and intervention programs. The project will also attempt to reach varying demographic and sociological groups."

Colorado Gun Shops Work Together to Prevent Suicides
"And now, a large trade association for the firearms industry, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, is teaming up with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to develop a suicide prevention campaign for the gun group's 13,000 members. Their goal is to reduce the annual suicide rate by 20 percent in the next decade."

No, The Gun Industry Ins't In Bed With Moms Demand. Someone Just Has An Active Imagination
"I contacted the NSSF first thing this morning for comment, and they assured me in no uncertain terms that they do not and will not partner with Moms Demand Action, a group that does not promote gun safety, and which does not provide firearms safety training, nor trigger locks, to anyone."

Kahr Firearms Group Honored with NSSF Voting Membership
"'We are extremely pleased that Kahr Arms has become a voting member,' said Steve Sanetti, NSSF President and CEO. 'Kahr's brands are well recognized and very successful in the American marketplace, so a more prominent role for Kahr Arms in helping to direct the NSSF mission to promote, protect and preserve hunting and the shooting sports is both welcome and appropriate at this point in the company's history'."

"The National Shooting Sports Foundation recently started tracking participation in long-range shooting and hunting as a specific segment of shooting sports. As of 2014, 5 percent of the shooting population participated in long-range shooting. Before 2013, those numbers were so small they weren't even recorded."
