NSSF Applauds Interior Deputy Secretary Confirmation
WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting sports industries, today applauded the confirmation of David Bernhardt as the Deputy Secretary of the Interior. A bipartisan majority of the Senate confirmed Bernhardt in a 53-43 vote today. NSSF joined with 28 hunting advocacy groups to support Bernhardt’s nomination to the second most senior post in the Interior Department.
“The confirmation of David Bernhardt is a clear win for American sportsmen and women,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF senior vice president and general counsel. “His years of success in wildlife conservation and management issues between federal and state governments will give Secretary Zinke the experience and leadership to carry out his vision for an Interior Department that appreciates the contributions of recreational hunting and sport shooting.”
Bernhardt is an avid hunter, angler and shooter with extensive service on Capitol Hill and with the Interior Department, including roles as deputy solicitor, deputy chief of staff and counselor to the Secretary, and as director of congressional and legislative affairs and counselor to the Secretary. He is versed in active regulations and rule-making, and has both private sector and government legal experience.
