NSSF Hunting Heritage Grant Program Now Open for Application
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation® (NSSF®), the trade association for the firearms industry, is pleased to announce that its newly established million-dollar grant program is now open for application.
Established in October 2018 and funded equally by NSSF and the Hunting Heritage Trust, this first of its kind grant program works to support hunting and the shooting sports recruitment efforts. For 10 consecutive years, beginning in 2019, organizations meeting eligibility requirements may apply for a portion of each year’s total annual $100,000 grant to be used to support recruitment, retention and reactivation programs, known collectively as R3 efforts. While all organizations with formalized R3 programs will be considered for each year’s award, there will be an emphasis on those programs focusing on youth and non-traditional participants.
“We are truly excited to put this new grant program in effect,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President. “It is designed with a singular focus in mind: the implementation of R3 efforts that produce tangible, measurable results, especially among those market demographic segments that are underserved. This is an unprecedented opportunity for anyone and everyone to develop bar-setting, replicable models of success for the benefit of our entire industry.”
Grant applications may be submitted by and in the name of non-governmental organizations (NGOs) seeking funding for hunting and shooting sports R3 efforts. All grant applications must be submitted to NSSF by May 15, 2019, for consideration. All projects for which grants are awarded funding in 2019 must be completed by March 18, 2020. Organizations are eligible for only one grant award from the Grant Program. The complete grant application criteria are viewable here.
“Now is the time to identify the people in your community who aren’t well-represented in the shooting sports or hunting,” said Steve Sanetti, NSSF CEO. “Why don’t they shoot or hunt? Is it a lack of access to a range, safety courses or information about legal firearms ownership? Do they not know that land is available to hunt nearby? Once you have the answers to questions like those, you’re on the road to solutions — especially those outside the box — and supporting those solutions is exactly why the grant program was established.”
