NSSF Welcomes Judy Bender To FFL Compliance Consultant Team
NEWTOWN, Conn. — The National Shooting Sports Foundation (NSSF), the trade association for the firearm industry, is pleased to announce that former career ATF investigator Judy Bender has joined the organization’s highly respected FFL Compliance Consultant team.
Bender joined the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) in 1973 in Chicago, Illinois, just a year after it became a bureau. She was hired as a clerk-stenographer, then later promoted to an investigative analyst, working with ATF’s special agents, including a year in ATF Headquarters. After 27 years with the bureau, Bender became an ATF inspector/investigator, and over the next 15 years she conducted hundreds of inspections of firearms and explosives licensees and qualified many applicants for firearms and explosives licenses. She also taught and developed practical exercises at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. During her career, Bender was also the training instructor for several new investigators and supervised the Downers Grove, Illinois, investigators for an extended period of time. Bender retired from ATF with more than 42 years of government service.
“With the busy and challenging months of this election year before our retailers, they, more than ever, are under the microscope,” said Patrick Shay, NSSF Director, Retail Development. “Viewed through that lens, our member retailers want to be shown as the law-abiding, ethical businesses they are. Adding Judy’s more than 40 years of ATF expertise to our talented roster of compliance consultants goes a long way towards helping them do just that.”
“I spent my entire career as an ATF investigator striving to help licensees be compliant with all ATF laws and regulations,” said Bender. “By working with NSSF after my retirement from ATF, I can continue to help the firearms industry be compliant and help promote public safety.”
NSSF offers a variety of benefits to its Retail Members, including a 24/7 compliance hotline, educational seminars, access to industry data and research and onsite consultations with its team of FFL compliance experts who bring decades of experience to the table.
