Renzulli Law Firm Partners to Join SHOT Show for Two Retailer Seminars
Whether it’s ATF, OSHA, state or local regulations, firearms retailers and range owners have a mind-numbing number of laws they must follow in operating their businesses. While there are many resources to address questions about these many legalities, sometimes nothing beats one-on-one time with an attorney. That’s why we invited the partners from the Renzulli Law Firm to teach these two Retailer Seminars, “Ask a Firearms Attorney” and “Intellectual Property.”

Christopher Renzulli is one of the firm’s partners. His practice concentrates on civil litigation with an emphasis on mass tort litigation, product, professional and premises liability, and all aspects of insurance coverage disputes, as well issues that affect the firearms and sporting goods industries, including the defense of product defect claims, preparation of product literature, recall implementation and retrofits, and ATF compliance. He has extensive success obtaining dismissals for his clients pursuant to the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, and he has unique experience with shooting ranges and the defense of claims of improper design and usage brought by neighbors, neighborhood associations and local governments.
Next up will be Michael Patrick, also a partner with the firm. His practice focuses on the needs of businesses and individuals in the global economy through his extensive expertise in intellectual property, licensing, corporate matters and complex litigation. He routinely counsels clients on intellectual property portfolio development and protection, product and product-line development, branding, licensing (including, celebrity, corporate, character, entertainment, patent, technology and toy licensing), merchandising, advertising and marketing. Part of his consulting entails working side-by-side with the firm’s marquee product liability group to provide clients with preventative counseling regarding product litigation, including risk avoidance and management issues.
Finally joining the podium will be John Renzulli, the firm’s founding partner. He has a wide range of experience in complex civil litigation for domestic and foreign clients with an emphasis on industry-wide liability, class actions, product liability, toxic torts, insurance coverage disputes, municipal liability, professional liability, construction/labor law, commercial disputes, employment law and intellectual property litigation. He frequently serves as lead trial counsel in the defense of major product liability cases and complex civil lawsuits nationwide, as national counsel to manufacturers, importers and retailers of firearms and ammunition, and he represents product manufacturers covering an array of industries including sports and recreational equipment. In addition, he counsels clients concerning product upgrades, recalls, and retrofits and assists insurers in drafting policies and endorsements.
The session “Intellectual Property” will take place from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 17. In this session you gain a better understanding of how as innovation and competition in the industry grows, industry members are increasingly faced with the task of ensuring that their valuable brands, products and properties are sufficiently protected, as well as responding to third-party threats to their brands, products, properties and business. You’ll learn about the practical and legal aspects of protecting and exploiting brands, products and properties in the context of trademarks, patents, copyrights and trade secrets, including the benefits of federal registration, how to develop enforcement strategies that identify and target threats to those properties (including, potential infringers) and how to exploit properties to increase value and profits (such as through licensing). This presentation will also discuss cost-effective strategies to avoid or respond to third-party claims of infringement and other threats, including, how to respond to cease and desist letters and how to prevent and avoid infringement of third-party rights. Attendees will learn some of the major intellectual property issues facing the industry and how to use intellectual property to distinguish their properties from competitors, how to protect the value of their properties and how to identify and prevent threats to those properties. This session will be taught by Christopher Renzulli and Michael Patrick.
“Ask a Firearms Attorney” will take place from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 18. In this seminar you’ll get a chance to have answered those nagging questions you’ve always wished you could ask an attorney—without the $200 or more an hour fee. And not just any attorney, rather three who specialize in the firearms industry. This is an invaluable opportunity to ask about literally anything under the sun that affects your firearms retail or range operation and have those questions answered by three of the top legal experts in the country who know our industry inside and out. All three attorneys will moderate this session.
